Home » Regions » Central Valley – Central Coast

The Central Valley and Central Coast region is the breadbasket of the world, spanning the Pacific Coast, the Great Central Valley, and majestic Yosemite in the Sierras.

Twenty Community Colleges in the Central region offer programs in energy efficiency, from Electronics to HVACR to Manufacturing Technology.

Highlights & Success Stories

Allan Hancock College

Allan Hancock has upgraded its welding equipment, not only exposing students to different types of equipment they’ll find on the job, but saving a couple of thousand dollars per year in energy efficiency.

Bakersfield College

Bakersfield has greatly expanded its lab equipment, giving each student much greater access; one student was hired by a local TV station, who subsequently attributed his success to the hands-on experience he received at Bakersfield.

College of the Canyons

Canyons is investing in state-of-the-art classroom technology, like 3-D printers. New video conferencing technology links live and online students into a virtual classroom, giving students and incumbent workers greater and more flexible access to live instruction.

College of the Sequoias

Each year, over 100 COS graduates are hired for welding jobs at salaries ranging from $37,300 to $67,750 per year! Employers are sending their incumbent employees back to school at COS due to the great training on latest technologies they know the employees will receive.

Kern Community College District

Prop 39 Clean Energy Workforce Program Funds were used to introduce 375 high school and college students to energy efficiency jobs through the Women in the Trades Workshop and the Student Apprenticeship Workshop as part of National Apprenticeship Week. Read more here

Merced College

The Merced welding program invested in equipment that students will encounter in the field. Students are earning industry-recognized AWS certification; job placement neared 70% in this program, and in the industrial technology program, 100% of graduates got jobs!

Oxnard College

Students at Oxnard perform energy audits on structures they choose using new equipment; some students go on to pursue HERS/BPI certification as energy auditors.
